Day 17: Walk in Humility

Writer's picture: Pastor ClarkPastor Clark

Humility is a cornerstone of our faith, reflecting a heart that fully depends on God and seeks His will above our own. In Micah 6:8, we are reminded of what God desires from us:

"Act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."

This verse is both an invitation and a challenge. Walking humbly with God requires us to surrender our pride, acknowledge our dependence on Him, and embrace a spirit of gratitude and obedience. As you fast today, let this time be a reminder of how much you rely on God for every blessing, strength, and provision in your life.

What It Means to Walk in Humility

  1. Recognizing God’s Sovereignty Humility begins with acknowledging that God is in control. When we walk humbly, we accept that His plans are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9) and trust in His perfect wisdom and timing.

  2. Serving Others Selflessly Jesus exemplified humility by serving others, even washing the feet of His disciples (John 13:14-15). When we follow His example, we prioritize the needs of others above our own and become vessels of His love.

  3. Relying on God’s Strength Humility reminds us that we cannot do anything apart from God (John 15:5). It is His strength, not our own, that sustains us through life’s challenges.

  4. Living with Gratitude A humble heart is a grateful heart. When we focus on God’s blessings and express thanks for His goodness, we cultivate a spirit of humility.

How to Cultivate Humility

  • Pray for a Humble Heart: Ask God to reveal areas of pride in your life and help you walk in humility.

  • Reflect on Christ’s Example: Meditate on passages that highlight the humility of Jesus, such as Philippians 2:3-8.

  • Serve Others Daily: Look for opportunities to bless others with your time, talents, and resources.

  • Practice Gratitude: Start and end your day by thanking God for His faithfulness and provision.

As you fast, let this practice deepen your reliance on God. Use today to examine your heart and invite Him to shape your character, aligning it with His desires.

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your grace and mercy. Help us to walk humbly with You, acknowledging that we depend on You for everything. Remove any pride from our hearts and fill us with a spirit of gratitude and love. Teach us to act justly, love mercy, and live in a way that honors You. May we reflect Christ in all that we do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

From Pastor Clark Ortiz, Senior Pastor of Center Church in Pharr, Texas, I encourage you to walk in humility as you draw closer to God. Fasting is a powerful reminder of our dependence on Him, and it opens the door for His transformative work in our hearts.

Challenge for the Day: Choose one act of service today that reflects Christ’s humility—whether it’s helping a neighbor, encouraging a friend, or praying for someone in need. Let this be a step toward living humbly with God.

Remember, humility is not thinking less of yourself; it’s thinking of yourself less and relying on God more. Walk humbly with Him today and every day!
