The Power of the Kingdom of God

Hey there, Center Church family! Pastor Clark Ortiz here. As we’re closing out the month of April here in Pharr, I’ve been spending a lot of time reflecting on everything we’ve walked through together lately. It is such a joy to serve as Pastor here at Center Church, and as I look out at our community, I’m constantly reminded of one specific truth that changes everything: the Kingdom of God is not just a destination we’re waiting for; it is a present power available to you right now.
We’ve been part of the Pharr community for 30 years now. Three decades of seeing families restored, lives changed, and people finding a real sense of belonging. When we talk about "The Power of the Kingdom," we aren't just talking about abstract theology or a history lesson. We are talking about the very thing that can transform your Monday morning, your marriage, and your walk with God.
It’s Not Just a Future Hope
A lot of times, when people hear the phrase "Kingdom of God," they immediately think of heaven: the place we go when this life is over. And while that’s a beautiful promise, if we only see the Kingdom as a "future hope," we miss out on the "present power" that Jesus talked about.
In the Gospels, Jesus’ very first message was, "The kingdom of God is at hand" (Mark 1:15). He didn’t say it was 2,000 years away or only accessible once we leave this earth. He said it was here. It’s within reach.

When the Kingdom is "at hand," it means God’s way of doing things: His rule, His peace, His healing: is crashing into our messy, everyday reality. Think about the challenges you’re facing this week. Maybe it’s a stressful situation at work, a health scare, or a relationship that feels like it’s hitting a dead end. The power of the Kingdom is God’s divine authority stepping into those spaces to bring order out of chaos.
Transformation in Your Daily Life
I know life can be tough. We see it every day at our Celebrate Recovery meetings: people battling hurts, habits, and hang-ups that feel impossible to break. But here is the declarative truth: the Kingdom of God is more powerful than any addiction, any fear, or any past mistake.
The Kingdom brings transformation because it replaces the "rules of the world" with the "reign of God." Where the world says you have to earn your worth, the Kingdom says you are already loved. Where the world says you should be anxious about the future, the Kingdom provides a peace that passes understanding.
If you’re feeling stuck, I want to encourage you to stop trying to fix everything in your own strength. Instead, invite the Kingdom into your day. Start your morning by saying, "God, let Your Kingdom come in my life today. Let Your will be done in my heart just as it is in heaven." It sounds simple, but that shift in perspective opens the door for supernatural power to move.
Strong Families and Authentic Fellowship
One of our biggest hearts here at Center Church is for the family. We believe that the Kingdom of God is best expressed through healthy, loving relationships. Whether you’ve been coming to our 9am or 11am services for years or you’re just checking us out, you’ll notice that we place a massive emphasis on authentic fellowship.
We aren't interested in "acting" like we have it all together. We want the real stuff. That’s why our Marriage Ministry and Children’s Ministry aren't just programs: they are environments where the Kingdom can take root in our homes.

When a husband and wife decide to live by Kingdom principles: serving one another, forgiving quickly, and putting God first: the atmosphere of their home changes. The Kingdom of God isn't just about what happens inside our building at 4801 N. Cage Blvd; it’s about what happens at your dinner table on Tuesday night. It’s about teaching our kids that they are part of a royal family and that they have a purpose in this world.
30 Years in Pharr: A Legacy of Kingdom Power
Looking back over our 30-year history in Pharr, I’m overwhelmed by God’s faithfulness. We’ve seen this community grow and change, but the need for God’s power remains the same. Our mission has always been to be a lighthouse: a place where anyone, regardless of their background, can encounter the living God.
We’ve seen the Kingdom manifest through our Food Bank, where we’ve been able to meet the physical needs of our neighbors while sharing the spiritual hope of the Gospel. We’ve seen it in our Youth Ministry, where the next generation is discovering that following Jesus is the greatest adventure they’ll ever embark on.
The Kingdom is dynamic. It moves. It expands. And as we close out this month, I’m believing that we are going to see a fresh wave of Kingdom power hit our city. We want Pharr to be a place where God’s presence is palpable.
How to Walk in Kingdom Power Today
So, how do we actually live this out? It’s one thing to read about it, but it’s another thing to experience it. Here are a few practical ways you can begin to operate in the power of the Kingdom today:
Surrender Your Agenda: The Kingdom is about God’s rule, not ours. Spend time in prayer surrendering your plans to Him. Ask Him to show you where you’ve been trying to be "king" of your own life.
Speak Life: Your words have power. Instead of speaking words of defeat or gossip, speak the truths of the Kingdom. Declare God’s promises over your children, your finances, and your health.
Engage in Community: You weren't meant to do this alone. Authentic fellowship is a catalyst for Kingdom power. Join a small group, serve in a ministry, or simply grab coffee with a brother or sister in Christ.
Practice Presence: Take five minutes today to sit in silence and recognize that God is with you. The Kingdom is "at hand" right where you are sitting.

A Specific Prayer for You
I’d like to invite you to pray this prayer with me right now:
"Heavenly Father, I thank You that Your Kingdom is not just a distant dream, but a present reality. I invite Your power into my life today. I bring my struggles, my fears, and my family before You. Let Your Kingdom come and Your will be done in my life, in my home, and in my community of Pharr. Break every chain that is holding me back and fill me with the boldness of Your Spirit. Help me to live as a representative of Your Kingdom in everything I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
